Location
The Milwaukee Public Library currently has a vacancy for a Library Services Manager-Education and Outreach Services (EOS). The Library Services Manager/Library Services Assistant Manager develops and implements high-quality educational and outreach initiatives, guided by the library’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.

Essential Functions

Leadership and Administration:

- Direct the organization and operation of the EOS Department, including setting priorities, strategies, objectives, and outcomes for achieving goals of the Milwaukee Public Library (MPL).
- Coach and guide the EOS unit to develop a strong sense of team, departmental identity, and positive morale.
- Support individual team members toward attainment of their professional goals.
- Work with the team to develop programs and services that meet identified community needs and align with systemwide priorities and goals.
- Gather information on the best policies and practices in similar areas from other libraries, prepare and present narrative and statistical studies, studies of use, reports and plans.
- Assume responsibilities of the Library Public Service Area Manager (PSAM) in their absence.
- Participate in staff recruitment and selection activities, such as interviewing and onboarding.
- Develop written performance standards and evaluate staff performance; coach and counsel staff relative to the provision of high-quality service, professional development and library best practices.
- Manage performance and issue commendation notices. Recommend disciplinary action and maintain related records.
- Plan and conduct in-service sessions and staff meetings.
- Approve time entry; organize staff records and reports of attendance and activity.
- Serve as Person in Charge of the Central Library as scheduled, including exercising overall supervision of public services staff and areas.

Operational and Service Delivery Oversight:

- Ensure efficient and effective operations and the provision of high-quality customer service.
- Aide in the selection and maintenance of a balanced collection that
- Direct staff in fielding requests for outreach services.
- Manage the mobile library services to nursing homes, low-income resident buildings, childcare centers, schools and other target populations.
- Manage the planning and implementation of systemwide literacy and educational programs, focusing on early childhood, school age, and teen
- Prepare budget requests and oversee expenditures.
- Carry out departmental priorities and goals as set forth in the library’s strategic plan.
- Serve as the project manager for activities such as summer learning outreach; support staff members in their individual project management efforts related to specific EOS programs, services, and initiatives.

Partnerships:

- Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations in support of program implementation and to assist with the advancement of MPL goals.
- Support EOS staff in establishing and maintaining relationships with childcare centers, schools, youth-serving organizations, senior housing and nursing homes, and other community-based agencies.
- Represent the library on committees, work groups, and advisory boards throughout the community.

Rates of Pay

Library Services Manager

The current salary range (Pay Range 1HX) is $87,973-$105,223 annually, and the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $90,612-$108,380 annually.

Library Services Assistant Manager

The current salary range (Pay Range 1FX) is $79,976-$92,612 annually, and the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $82,375-$95,390 annually.

Requirements

Candidates who successfully complete the selection process will be placed on the highest-level eligible list for which they qualify.

Library Services Manager

1. Master's degree in library science or library information science from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited library school.
2. Five years of progressively responsible professional librarian experience, including performing complex bibliographic, reference, and readers' advisory work.
3. One year of lead or supervisory experience related to the essential functions above (may be concurrent with #2 above).

Library Services Assistant Manager


1. Master's degree in library science or library information science from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited library school.
2. Four years of progressively responsible professional librarian experience, including performing complex bibliographic, reference, and readers' advisory work.
