Library students, we want to help you prepare for your future as a Youth Services Librarian. This position is a perfect way to get the hands on training and experience in a very successful youth services department. With over 12,000 people served in 2017, this library can help you prepare for your first professional librarian position after school.
We are looking for an energetic, friendly, responsible, self-motivated, creative and organized person to assist and support library services for children and teens. This position works closely with the Youth Services Librarian to create and execute programming as well as daily tasks within the children’s library.
Responsibilities include aiding in preparations for library programs, creating support materials, assisting and sometimes leading youth programming, creating book displays, assisting with collection maintenance, providing readers advisory, and working at the children’s library help desk. This is a 10 hour a week position with a majority of the hours being during the weekday. During the summer the hours increase to 15 hours a week. Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be needed depending on programming schedules.
Minimal job requirements are: some post-secondary education/training; computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as social media; good communication; customer service skills; previous work or experience with children/teens. Pay range is $11.63 - $13.36/hour depending on qualifications and experience.
