Library Deputy Director
Type:Full Time
Salary/Pay Rate:$71,253 to commensurate
Deadline to Apply:10/10/2018 4:30 PM

This is an exciting time to join the Marion Public Library! With a building project on the horizon and a rapidly growing community, we are in the unique position to recraft our core services and offerings to best meet the needs of our users. In addition to fulfilling the role of a traditional public library, we want to delight our patrons and inspire them to explore new experiences both within the library’s walls and in the broader community as described in our Strategic Plan.

We are making changes and trying new things, and we’re looking for a Deputy Director to help us meet and exceed the needs of our community. Reporting to the Library Director, the Deputy will serve as part of the library’s leadership team. We’re looking for an innovative and collaborative administrator who can successfully manage library services through delegation and creative leadership. The successful candidate should have skills ranging from facilities and contract management to technology and IT service coordination. Familiarity with social media outlets, writing and editing skills, and evidence of political savvy will be considered assets.

The candidate will be responsible for working directly with the City of Marion’s HR Manager on all library-specific HR needs. For this reason, and because of the confidentiality of patron records as outlined in the Code of Iowa, the Deputy Director must understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.

The Deputy Director should have the flexibility and enthusiasm for leading staff through change and should be bold about setting and meeting short- and long-term goals, operating in a fast-paced environment, and effectively setting priorities. This position requires the ability to successfully navigate the spaces between library administration, library staff, and the community. The candidate should be able to deal effectively with the library’s advocacy groups, with diverse populations, and with community organizations. Please see the linked job description for full details.

This position is full time (40 hours/week), may include evening and weekend hours, and may require some overtime work. Salary range starts at $71,253 annually, commensurate with relevant experience, and includes a competitive benefits package.

To apply, submit a completed City of Marion application, resume, and cover letter to Human Resources via [email protected].
