DESCRIPTION:
SUMMARY Under general supervision, to manage all operations of the Reference Department and library training programs by providing professional level reference and research services for faculty, staff, students, and the community. This is a highly visible professional position that serves as a consultant related to issues regarding database instruction, research, print/electronic reference resources and the Critical Life Skill of "information seeking."
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
1. Provide daily professional level reference and research services to faculty, staff, students and community members to include assisting patrons with reference questions, research and database searching; and electronic reference. 2. Participate in the development of library services by assisting in general collection development, being an active member of library working committees, communicating with, and training library staff when necessary and providing recommendations for service and facility improvements to the Director of Library Services. 3. Promote library services to faculty, students, staff and community users through participation in various programs, events, and class visits; working with departmental library liaisons; creation of brochures, handouts, packets, signage; web page development; and regular contact with users. 4. Design, schedule, and implement user workshops, library research courses and series, and library instructional materials, such as LibGuides to support and integrate the Critical Life Skill of "information seeking," in coordination with the Director of Library Services. Collaborate with faculty to incorporate information literacy into the curriculum. 5.Oversee library operations, in the absence of the Director of Library Services, to include performing lead duties such as resolving problems; handling security issues; troubleshooting technology problems; assisting difficult or disabled customers; Assisting with circulation functions in the absence of adequate staff; securing the facility (library) for the evening. 6. Maintain statistics and records as needed. Create, prepare, and submit reports and user documentation as it relates to current and new reference desk and instructional services/resources. 7. Recommend budget allocation with supporting documentation for reference and instructional services/resources to the Director of Library Services. 8. Provide professional leadership and serve on college and external library committees. 9. Maintain knowledge of current and expanding functions of WCTC online library catalog, electronic databases and print resources, and monitor trends and developments in the library field through attendance and involvement at professional organizations, meetings, workshops, field literature, and professional activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
1. Knowledge of professional library principles and procedures of general and specialized
reference resources.
2. Working knowledge of electronic and print sources, electronic databases, the Internet, online
catalog systems, and other computerized information resources.
3. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule priorities.
4. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and associates
as a team member.
6. Ability to use and explain the use of catalogs, guides, and the library online catalog to
customers.
7. Ability to work with and produce print handouts and online instruction materials that can be
easily understood by students with a wide range of ability.
8. Demonstrated leadership, independent judgment, and initiative.
9. Demonstrated ability to direct other employees.
Education and Experience Requirements
1. Master's degree in Library Science from ALA accredited university/college.
2. Two years of professional level work experience in a library to include reference and/or formal
library instruction.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
The part-time Reference Librarian supports the department of Library Services and is available
immediately.
Position Details
This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week with hours Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and
Thursdays from (3pm to 8pm), and Fridays from 11:30am to 4:30pm. While this is the proposed
schedule, there may be some degree of flexibility in this schedule.

Salary
Salary is listed to the midpoint of the 2019-2020 salary range. Salary will be commensurate on
work experience, internal equity and will be prorated based on 0.50 FTE.
