The City of Stoughton, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as Technical Services Assistant at Stoughton Public Library. Founded in 1847, the City of Stoughton, population 13,134, is known for its Carnegie Library, and its annual Norwegian Syttende Mai Celebration in May as well as being the birthplace of the coffee break. Stoughton also boasts one of the few remaining second story theaters in the Midwest - the beautifully restored Stoughton Opera House. Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Technical Services Supervisor will coordinate and supervise technical services operations and staff, and serve as the Library's in-house technology specialist. The Technical Services Supervisor will be responsible for planning and organizing technical services workflow and work areas. The individual in this position will maintain inventory for all library supplies and order as needed, receive new materials, catalog, and process all materials, as well as document all technical services procedures.

The Technical Services Supervisor will assist library users in the use of technology, they will work public service desks as assigned to provide assistance to library users in locating, using, or borrowing library materials. They will organize and maintain Technical Services work area, computer files, paperwork, and equipment. They will help maintain and support library online presence. The Technical Services Supervisor will also train, assign tasks to, supervise, and evaluate technical services staff. They will serve as Volunteer Coordinator: recruit, interview, train, assign tasks to, supervise, and evaluate volunteers.

The Technical Services Supervisor will monitor and research technology developments as they relate to future library technical services and technology; provide hardware and software troubleshooting for Library staff and patrons. They will serve as the Library's in-house technology specialist, serve also as the Library liaison with public schools' technology staff to maintain public school computers, and serve as a member of the Library management team.

This position requires the ability: to perform assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision; to schedule, train, supervise, direct, and evaluate the work of the library staff, interns, and volunteers. It also requires the ability to comprehend and interpret a variety of documents including computer manuals, library catalogs, and reference materials, and to prepare a variety of documents including statistical reports and procedure manuals using prescribed format and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.

The Technical Services Supervisor must have the ability to communicate effectively with the Library Director, library users, volunteers, library and City staff, representatives of other libraries, and the general public verbally and in writing; work with others in a team-oriented library environment; and will be able to work flexible hours, including evening, and weekend hours.

A High School diploma is required, a post-secondary degree preferred, two years’ public library experience preferred, or other education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities, computer-related skills appropriate for a modern office environment including knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.

This is a full time, 40 hours per week non-exempt position. The starting wage range for this position is $19.15 - $22.05, with an excellent benefits package.
