The Johnson Creek Public Library seeks a well-organized and community-minded leader to direct the operations of their library. The library has a focus on early literacy and creating young readers through vibrant children’s programming. Applicants should be enthusiastic supporters of public libraries with a passion for cultivating learning and literacy as well as engaging the community. A talent for strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, the ability to remain positive and flexible, and a demonstrated ability to lead people are also highly desired for this position. Proficiency with computers, internet, and digital communications is essential, and familiarity with popular library software and hardware is desired.

The library is currently evaluating the need for an expanded facility which will enhance the services offered to the community. The library director will be an integral part of this process.

The Johnson Creek Public Library is a member of the Bridges Library System, which includes the 24 public libraries located in Jefferson and Waukesha counties. The library serves a municipal community of 3,021 and also provides library services to the rural residents of Jefferson County and the surrounding areas. Johnson Creek is located at the crossroads of Interstate 94 and Highway 26 and is approximately halfway between Madison and Milwaukee.

Responsibilities: The Library Director is under the direct supervision of a five-member Board of Trustees and is responsible for the operations of the library including serving as the library’s executive officer and technical advisor to the board; building and maintaining the collection; managing the library budget and finances; supervising library staff; maintaining the library building; and developing, implementing, and promoting library services and programs to all residents of the community.

Qualifications: Candidates must be eligible for a Wisconsin Grade II certification. Three or more years of library experience is desired. Library administration experience and a Master’s Degree from an ALA-accredited program in Library Science are preferred. The ideal candidate shall also possess excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with their staff, the Library Board, the Village of Johnson Creek, and community organizations. Knowledge of current library practices, technology, and trends is required.

Compensation: The minimum salary starts at $45,000 commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The Village of Johnson Creek provides a competitive package of benefits.
