The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries seek a Public Services Librarian to provide a wide array of reference, research, and instructional services in the American Geographical Society Library (AGSL). The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, creative, forward-thinking librarian who is knowledgeable and passionate about the changing nature of librarianship and the implications for special collections with a primary focus on cartographic collections. They will be committed to providing excellent reference and instructional services, fostering engagement with the collections, developing relationships with all researchers and faculty, promoting the collections through outreach activities and collaborating with colleagues in Archives and Special Collections on special projects.

Reporting to the AGSL Curator, the Public Services Librarian serves users both in person and virtually by supporting research utilizing the AGSL’s collections, both cartographic and non-cartographic, for all audiences worldwide. Will be conversant in the principles and practices of scholarly communication and digital scholarship as they pertain to cartography, the history of cartography, geography and the history of geography. This requires continual study of the Library’s holdings, mastery of relevant bibliographical resources, and a knowledge of the history of cartography.
