The George Culver Community Library seeks a dynamic, community-minded Director with vision for the future. The successful candidate must be able to enhance the library and its role in the community, provide leadership, and offer innovative library services.

Sauk City, Wisconsin (population 3,410) is part of the greater Sauk Prairie community in Sauk County. We are minutes away from Madison, Wisconsin Dells, and Devil’s Lake State Park. Nestled among bluffs created by ancient glaciers on the Wisconsin River, the Sauk Prairie Riverway offers breathtaking beauty, recreational opportunities, unique history, and a community that values the arts, progressive schools, and top-rated healthcare. The Library recently moved to a beautifully renovated 9,600 square foot building in 2020. We are focused on early literacy and technology with a 2021 operating budget of $389,981 and staff of FTE (5.60). The library is a member of the South Central Library System and its shared Integrated Library system (ILS), LINKcat (Bibliovation). The George Culver Community Library works separately from, but in cooperation with the Ruth Culver Community Library in Prairie du Sac to provide services to the Sauk Prairie community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Overall administration of the library, supervision and motivation of staff, financial management, strategic planning, programming, outreach, and community relations, oversight of facility, advising the Library Board and Friends of the Library, advocacy of the interests of the library.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a liberal arts program and ability to obtain Grade 2 Wisconsin Library Certification is required; certification completion required within 2 years. A Library Science Master’s Degree from an accredited institution is preferred. Successful candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of current and emerging library technology, fiscal knowledge, and ability to work effectively with the library board, library employees, Village of Sauk City personnel, and the community. Prior experience as a library director or two years library experience with supervisory responsibilities preferred.

Salary and benefits: $48,000-$51,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position. Benefits include paid leave, excellent health insurance, life insurance and state of Wisconsin employee trust fund retirement plan.
