ADULT & TEEN SERVICES TEMPORARY LIBRARIAN

Pauline Haass Public Library is looking for an experienced adult and teen reference librarian or MLS student intern to fill a 18-20 hour/week temporary (3-4 months) position this coming winter/spring of 2022. The temporary work requires a reasonable amount of availability during daytime hours, plus 1 evening weekly and weekend hours on a 4 week rotation. This position will have a schedule so that you know your hours well in advance.

You will work independently on a busy reference/information desk that primarily serves adults and teens (there is a separate area and reference desk for children). Our library places a strong emphasis on customer service; we walk people to the stacks, place holds for them if needed, open study rooms, provide extensive help with questions about the use of electronic devices and the Internet; and look for ways to say “yes.” Delivering great service with a warm smile, while juggling, is the expectation. Confident ability assisting with mobile devices and library apps like Libby is a requirement, as are strong search skills, a real interest in our customers, patience, kindness, and an unhesitating ability to set firm behavioral limits with those few but fascinating library users who need that.

Under the direction of the Adult & Teen Services Manager you will plan and facilitate programs for teens, select and purchase library materials including for teen collections, design library marketing, design teen displays and more.

Pauline Haass Public Library is a member of the Bridges Library System and CAFÉ consortium which shares a Polaris catalog.

The pay rate for this position starts at $18.63/hour and goes up to $20.67 for experienced MLS candidates. Candidates with an MLS or MLS students with at least one year of public library experience on a reference desk, appropriate availability, and the qualities listed above are invited to email or send a letter of interest, resume, and a completed application by 4:00pm on Sunday, October 31 to:
