The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries seek an experienced and forward-thinking Library Associate Director (LAD) to lead its Collection and Resource Management Division. The LAD provides vision, leadership, and guidance for a team of individuals responsible for acquiring and making discoverable resources in all formats. Responsibilities include collection development aligned with the instructional and research needs of the University, management a $3M collections budget to greatest effect, and oversight of collection management and cataloging at the main library and two branch locations.

The scope of the Collection and Resource Management Division includes collection development, acquisitions, print and electronic resources management, cataloging and metadata, physical processing, and bindery operations. The division is organized into two departments, Collection Management and Cataloging and Metadata, and it includes ten permanent staff. The LAD directly supervises the department heads.

Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost and Director of Libraries, the LAD serves on the Libraries’ senior leadership team and participates in strategic planning, policy making, and major initiatives. The position serves as a resource for, and collaborates with, other divisions and areas of the UWM Libraries as well as the University of Wisconsin System library consortium. The position develops and maintains effective, cooperative relationships with University faculty, staff, students, and others.

The successful candidate will develop directions for the division, set goals aligned with the needs of the University, guide action, and foster a work environment that inspires high performance and shared responsibility. The individual will exercise strong leadership skills that build trust and result in productive relationships within the Libraries and across UWM. The position requires strong analytical and decision-making skills, an orientation toward new and developing practices, and an ability to achieve results by motivating and empowering staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s of Library Science/Master’s of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
Minimum of five years management experience in technical services in an academic or research library.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current issues and trends in collection management, development, and assessment.
Substantial operational experience in technical services and collections.
Familiarity with information technology, standards, and trends in acquisitions and cataloging.
Familiarity with integrated library systems (Ex Libris’ Alma or similar).
Experience with budgeting, licensing, vendor relationships and consortial purchasing.
Experience supervising professional and support staff.
Commitment to creating an inclusive environment that embraces diversity and fosters equity and mutual respect.
Demonstrated initiative and flexibility, as well as the ability to adapt to and work creatively in a rapidly changing environment.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Evidence of ability to communicate effectively, both in person and in writing.
Ability to build positive relationships with faculty, students, staff and others.
Experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Record of continued professional development, involvement, and activities.
