Refocusing. Renewing. Revitalizing. Waukegan Public Library is seeking a collaborative, curious, and encouraging leader who is passionate about nurturing a welcoming and engaging environment for patrons and staff and expanding the library's positive impact in the community.

As Communications & Community Engagement Manager you will develop, implement, and evaluate the library's PR and marketing strategies, build and strengthen community partnerships, plan and organize special events, act as liaison to the Library Foundation and develop other mutually beneficial partnerships. You will use traditional and innovative tools to solicit feedback, and evaluate statistics, surveys, and other measurements to respond to community need, and most importantly, mentor and motivate your staff (Community Engagement Coordinator and Print & Digital Media Assistant).

As a member of the Leadership Team, you will contribute to policies, procedures, and plans for overall library operations and staff support activities, including a new three-year strategic plan. Current goals include reimagining the print and electronic editions of our newsletter, helming development of an outreach van, redesign of the library's website, an audit of the library's signage and spaces to improve user experience, and collaborating with staff on innovative ways to promote use of the Library, including ad campaigns, and large-scale cultural events.

This Exempt 37.5 hour/wk position starts at $53,625 with a midpoint of $64,350. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance package; IMRF; life insurance; sick, vacation, and personal time off; Employee Assistance Program, and optional enrollment in a 457 plan.
The Waukegan Public Library is located near 1-94, Route 41, and Sheridan Road, and has convenient access from the Metra Union Pacific North station.

The successful candidate will be a strong advocate for representing and celebrating Waukegan's diverse community, its artistry and history, and recognize that the library's mission to empower and support learning and discovery can only be achieved through upholding the tenets of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policy.

Waukegan Public Library invites people of all backgrounds, experiences, and abilities to apply and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
