The committee is made up of seven members appointed to two-year terms. Every effort is made to ensure committee members represent various sections of WLA to encourage diverse library perspectives when determining awards & honors winners.

The work of the Awards and Honors Committee traditionally takes place over six to seven months.  Work often begins in early May, with the group meeting online to determine award categories, timelines (promotion, nomination deadlines, consideration of nominations, announcements, etc.) and committee formation (promotion, forms/nominations, event).  After the nomination deadline, the entire committee meets again online to consider the nominations and select award winners.  The workload is not large but needs to be completed in a timely manner to meet deadlines.  All meetings are online and total commitment is around ten hours for committee members.
