We are proud to highlight our members who commit their time and resources to helping Wisconsin libraries and librarians thrive through their work with the Wisconsin Library Association. Each month, we will be sharing their stories and hope you will be inspired to learn more about our programs or get involved! Fill out the Lead with WLA form and be connected with other change agents, leaders, and committees that can use what you have to offer. Brendan Lenzner | Fall 2025For which library, institution, or organization are you currently employed? Marquette University - Raynor Library
How many year(s) have you been a member of Wisconsin Library Association? Three years
Can you tell us more about the unit/division/roundtable/SIG that you are part of? What would you want WLA members to know about this group? WAAL is a great way to connect with other librarians in academic settings and it's a great way to learn what's happening at other higher education institutions and their libraries.
What has been your favorite or most impactful function or event of WLA? I started attending the WAAL and WLA conferences soon after I started my career and they have been a great way to connect with other librarians across the state. Through this, I've been able to learn what others are doing at their libraries and it helps build a sense of community among other librarians that you wouldn't normally talk to.
How has being a member of WLA impacted you or your career? Being a member of WLA has helped me get more involved with things like the WLA annual conference and the WAAL conferences. This has helped me to become more active professionally and to expand my network and learn what's happening in other libraries around Wisconsin.
Do you have a library role model (in Wisconsin or elsewhere) that has provided you with inspiration or guidance? Please share a little bit about it. Everyone at Raynor Library has been super helpful and inspiring. I’ve picked up a lot from my coworkers, especially my supervisor, Ed Sanchez—he’s been awesome at showing me the ropes and helping me grow as a new librarian. He's helped me learn a lot about library related stuff that I didn't know before starting my current position.
Do you have any advice for new WLA members? I recommend to new WLA members to get involved with committees and units/divisions/SIGs. Doing so helps you grow professionally and helps you connect with others that you might not normally work with. Also, reach out to other members!
