Do you love making a difference in the lives of young people? Do you love to create innovative programming and outreach events? Due to an internal promotion, the North Shore Library is seeking a Head of Youth Services.

The ideal candidate is outgoing, creative, technology-minded and enthusiastic about being a part of an ever-changing environment. Other desirable talents include the ability to provide high quality, research-based, early literacy learning experiences for caregivers and preschoolers while also offering cutting edge fun and educational programs for children aged 4K-teen. This experienced, forward-thinking librarian will promote a love of learning and reading and help foster future school success among the children of the North Shore Library Communities.

This full time leadership position works with the Head of Adult Services, Assistant Director and Library Director as part of the Library’s Management Team. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Youth Services Department and directly supervises three part-time staff. This position will plan, manage and evaluate all in-house and outreach classes and services that are provided to children from birth through teen. Additionally this position is responsible for the Children’s and Young Adult Collections. The Head of Youth Services is also responsible for identifying community needs and providing direct library services such as reference, reader’s advisory and technical assistance to customers of all ages. The North Shore Library is planning a renovation. The person hired for this position will have the opportunity to be directly involved in the planning for the children and teen areas.

Eligibility:
• Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Youth Services Librarian.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children; planning, marketing and presenting youth services classes and events.
• Preference given to those with supervisory and outreach experience.

Salary and Schedule:
This is a full time exempt position. Salary range of $47,300-$50,550 depending on experience. The schedule includes a minimum of one evening per week and rotating weekends.
