Subject :Part-time Children’s Library Associate - Pauline Haass Public Library, Sussex, WI

Do you enjoy working with children and serving the public? Are you cheerful, positive, and enthusiastic while also a focused, organized multi-tasker? Do you have a love of children’s literature, or a passion to learn about it? Do you aspire to work in the field of early literacy and children’s librarianship? Are you seeking part-time work in a professional position? You may be the person we need!

The Pauline Haass Public Library is seeking a part-time library associate to join our busy Children’s Services team. The person in this position will plan and implement programs that include storytime, school visits, community outreach, and the summer reading program. Another core duty of this position is designing, setting up, and maintaining literacy-based interactive play areas. Department-wide duties include selection of materials; creating displays; producing professional-looking publicity materials, booklists, and signage; readers’ assistance at the reference desk; and general department upkeep.

The person in this position will prioritize helping our library users, so a positive, welcoming demeanor and ability to work well with children and their families at both their best and not-so-best moments is a must!

The Children’s Library Associate works closely under the guidance and training of the Children’s Services Manager. This is a 20 hours per week position, and currently includes one evening per week and every fourth weekend.

Applicants who would like to be considered must have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (preferably in education, child development, English, or library science) and work experience with children in a library, educational or recreational setting. The applicant should possess good communication and writing skills, computer skills, and a familiarity with books and libraries. Artistic and organizational skills are also beneficial.

While applications will be accepted until the position is filled, preference will be given to applications received by August 1.

Starting wage is $16.50-$17.50/hour depending upon experience. Benefits include paid sick leave and paid vacation. This part-time position does not qualify for the health insurance benefit.
