The Black River Falls Public Library aspires to serve all residents of the community and Jackson County by connecting our community through information, resources, and enrichment. The Library Board of Trustees seeks an energetic, self-motivated, and innovative Library Director for a vibrant public library located in West Central Wisconsin. Black River Falls Public Library, Wisconsin’s First Public Library, is the largest library in Jackson County which includes a service population of 20,000. Under the direct supervision of the public library board of trustees, the library director is responsible for the operations of the library and the development and implementation of its service program.

Essential Duties:
• Assists the board with long-range planning and policy development, and managing all library resources, including human resources.
• Implements and manages library budget.
• Organizes the acquisitions, access, storage, and control of collections.
• Designs and implements services and programs for users of all ages.
• Oversees the maintenance and safety of the library building and grounds.
• Hires and supervises all library staff, substitutes, and volunteers who work in the library.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree & Grade 2 Wisconsin Pubic Librarian Certification or eligibility for required certification. MLS preferred, but not required.
• Three years of progressively responsible public library experience, or five years of experience in a service institution with comparable demands and responsibilities which include: staff supervision, working directly with the public, working with governing boards or bodies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information in both verbal and written form.
• Ability to work with governing boards, community groups and elected officials, and make presentations to them.
• Knowledge of public library philosophy, principles, and procedures which will allow effective recommendations to the board and sound decision making when faced with a wide range of circumstances.
• Ability to supervise staff and volunteers and delegate responsibility in an effective manner.

Community Snapshot:
Only two hours from the Twin Cities, two hours from Madison and five hours from Chicago, the Black River area brings the Northwoods closer to home. Both indoor and outdoor activities are abundant throughout the year which include the Lunda Community Center, ATV riding, hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, festivals, flea markets, farmers markets and other summer activities. The area offers a diverse landscape within the county, including the Jackson County Forest, a variety and abundance of wildlife, and walking trail through town. With a population under 4,000, Black River Falls is a friendly, rural community. Our community is proud of its schools and medical facilities.

We have great community support, an active Friends of the Library and positive working relationships among staff and the Board of Trustees.

This exempt position is full-time, 80 hours per pay period, which include some evenings and weekends. Salary based on experience, with excellent benefit package.
