The Board of Trustees is seeking candidates to serve as Director of the Menomonie Public Library. This position oversees all aspects of the library’s operations, services, facilities, and programs. Menomonie is a thriving community of 16,264 people (2010 census) located in western Wisconsin, an hour’s drive east of Minneapolis-St. Paul and thirty minutes west of Eau Claire, WI.

The Menomonie Public Library is an active member of the IFLS Library System and the MORE Library Consortium. Total 2019 circulation was 156,271 with a service population of approximately 35,500 which includes a municipal population of 16,264 and 20,000 rural residents, with a branch location in Elk Mound, WI. The Library has an annual budget of $1 million with 5 full-time employees in addition to the Director and 13 part-time staff. There are 3 departments: Youth Services, Circulation Services, and Adult Services. The 17,000 square foot prairie-style building designed by John Howe sits on the banks of Lake Menomin. The Library enjoys positive relationships and significant yearly financial support from The Menomonie Public Library Foundation and The Friends of the Menomonie Public Library, organizations committed to supporting and enhancing library services.

The Director reports to the Board of Trustees which is made up of 12 dedicated citizens from the City of Menomonie and Dunn County, and is the primary representative of the library. The Director will collaborate with the City and County, continue current partnerships, and seek out and nurture other mutually beneficial relationships within the community. The director will successfully manage annual and capital budgets, implementing and continually adapting a strategic plan, and managing initiatives in addition to daily operations. The director will be involved in implementing scheduled capital improvements as well as coordinating ongoing evaluation of future needs for the library building and grounds.

This full-time, salaried position requires some evening and weekend commitments. Ideal applicants will be highly motivated to continue to make the Menomonie Public Library an integral part of the community.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited program in accordance with Wisconsin Law; 3 or more years of progressive management experience which demonstrates continual growth of duties and responsibilities in a public library.
• Eligibility for Grade 1 Certification from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
• A background check is required for all full-time, part-time, volunteer and temporary employees.

Favorable consideration will be given to applicants with strengths in public administration, budgeting, personnel management, fundraising and outreach. Knowledge of library materials management systems, materials handling, security systems, RFID, secure payment systems, personal computing, internet, and networking services would be helpful.

Minimum starting salary is $70,000 negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
