General Summary of Position
Responsible for the administration of the Door County Library System with branch libraries in Washington Island, Sister Bay, Ephraim, Fish Creek, Egg Harbor, Baileys Harbor, Forestville and Sturgeon Bay. Oversight and administration of the Door County Museum and Archives. Responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.

Essential & General Job Functions
Essential Job Functions

1. Implements policies and goals of the library as established by the Library Board.
2. Plans, organizes and administers programs and procedures governing library services in Door County.
3. Acts as executive officer of the library and administrative officer to the Library Board; submits reports to the board, prepares and submits the library budget to the board, advises board on policy matters.
4. Establishes overall services of the library in light of changing community needs.
5. Hires, trains and supervises staff. Prepares annual employee performance evaluations.
6. Acts as spokesperson for the library in the community.
7. Works with government officials to meet the needs of the library.
8. Maintains liaison with civic, educational, and other community interest groups.
9. Member of the Nicolet and OWLS Systems Advisory Committees.
10. Prepare state annual report for review and approval by the library board.
11. Visits branch libraries on a regular basis and provides supervision for branch managers.
12. Inform and advise the Library Board as to local, regional, state and national developments in the library field, and work to maintain
13.Provides and collaborates with the County Administrator on the library, museum and archives budgets and is responsible for maintaining communications between the library board and County.

General Job Functions
1. Oversees materials selectors for all media and all age groups, based on the library’s approved Materials Management policy.
2. Oversees all internal library committees which function as advisory for system management, programming, materials management, staff enrichment and continuing education, and policy creation.
3. Directs and implements the current Door County Library strategic plan.
4. Monitors and approves employee hours biweekly in payroll software.
5. Monitors and approves budget expenditures.

Training, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Training and Experience

1. Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited library school program.
2. Grade I Wisconsin Public Librarian Certification or eligibility for required certification.
3. Maintenance of required certification through necessary coursework and/or qualifying continuing education.
4. Seven (7) years or more of progressively responsible public library experience.
5. Three (3) years or more of supervisory experience.
6. Current valid driver’s license required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Extensive knowledge of public library philosophy, principles, and procedures which will allow effective recommendations to the board and sound decision making when faced with a wide range of circumstances.
2. Ability to plan and direct library services and technical work.
3. Ability to produce and maintain accurate files and reports.
4. Ability to use tact and courtesy in maintaining an effective working relationship with department employees, county supervisors, county officials, and general public.
5. Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
6. Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
