Location
The Horicon Public Library seeks an innovative, dynamic, and self-motivated part-time Teen & Technical Services Librarian. The ideal candidate enjoys planning, implementing, and promoting Teen programming, managing Young Adult materials, providing technical assistance to patrons of all ages, embracing new technologies, and delivering standard circulation and reference activities. The position is 20 hours per week, including some evenings and one Saturday per month.

Job Description:

Job Title: Teen & Technical Services Librarian
Schedule: 20 hours per week, varied hours including evenings and one Saturday per month.
Wage: $15.00 to start, with raise after a successful 6-month probationary period.
Reports to: Director.

Position Summary: Under general supervision, performs paraprofessional work serving library patrons directly or indirectly. May have supervisory and decision-making responsibilities.

Qualifications
• College degree in a related field preferred, a high school diploma or equivalent required
• Experience working with children
• Technological proficiency required
• Customer service experience preferred
• Library experience preferred
• Programming experience preferred
• Marketing and social media experience preferred

Duties/Examples of Work

1. Plans, organizes, promotes, and conducts library services and programs in Youth Adult, Senior, interlibrary loan, and technical services.
2. Assists in training, the work of persons in support staff positions.
3. Plans special interest displays, programs, and projects; prepares routine publicity within budget.
4. Assists library users at a service desk.
5. Administers Library overdue procedure.
6. Maintains the selection and deselection of Young Adult, Games, and Music collections. Recommends materials for other library collections. Maintains operating supplies within budget parameters.
7. Catalogs Young Adult and Music Media materials and maintains Serial collection.
8. Assists in the updating of library procedures and compiles statistical information.
9. Helps maintain set-up, configuration, maintenance, and inventory of library computer network.
10. Assists library users at the circulation desk, such as checking materials in and out, registering patrons, collecting fines, etc.
11. Performs light housekeeping including library pets.
12. Performs other related work as assigned by the Library Director.
Knowledge and Abilities
1. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patrons.
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality of library patron information.
3. Ability to gather statistics, analyze information and write reports.
4. Ability to operate library business machines properly, which may require knowledge of databases and search methods.
5. Ability to understand library policies and procedures and apply them to library operations.
6. Ability to use computer software and manage computerized files.
7. Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work, respond to varied/changing work demands and make decisions as required.
8. Considerable knowledge of library operations, services and materials.
9. Mobility: travel to meetings outside library.
10. Good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationship with the public, peers and supervisors.
11. Willingness to maintain skills through active participation in appropriate continuing education activities.
12. Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
Physical Demands of the Position
1. Ability to work in confined spaces.
2. Bending/twisting and reaching.
3. Far vision at 20 feet or further; near vision at 20 inches or less.
4. Fingering: keyboarding, writing, filing, sorting, shelving and processing.
5. Handling: processing, picking up and shelving books.
6. Lifting and carrying: 50 pounds or less.
7. Pushing and pulling: objects weighing 300-400 pounds on wheels.
8. Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
9. Talking and hearing; use of the telephone.

6. Mathematical ability: calculate basic arithmetic problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) without the aid of a calculator.
7. Reading ability: effectively read and understand information contained in memoranda, and reports.
8. Time management: set priorities in order to meet assignment deadlines.

Equipment Used
Computer, audiovisual equipment, book truck, calculator, game consoles, copy/fax machine, telephone, library automation system, microfilm/fiche reader, telephone, e-readers, and their related software..
Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or equivalent, as demonstrated by prior work experience or documented accomplishments.
2. Keyboarding and general office experience.
3. Some previous library experience.
