The UW-Madison Libraries are seeking applicants for the position of Graphic Designer. This person will conceptualize, plan, and execute digital and/or print design to support the strategic objectives of the institution; create on-brand, compelling visual assets used to inform, educate, inspire, and/or persuade. Help create content for videos, social media, and digital platforms to increase the visibility of the organization. The graphic designer position collaborates with library staff and campus stakeholders to further the visual messaging, branding, voice, and mission of the Libraries. The position helps ensure the consistent visual representation of the Libraries communication and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities

Conceptualizes, plans, and executes digital and/or print design to support the strategic objectives of the institution; creates on-brand, compelling visual assets used to inform, educate, inspire, and/or persuade.
  • 25% Creates, designs, and produces artwork per project specifications through various mediums
  • 5% Analyzes and identifies cost effective options to meet project requirements
  • 10% Schedules logistics, secures resources, organizes, and monitors art production projects adhering to established timelines and expectations
  • 5% Answers questions and provides information and problem resolution options to clients and stakeholders
  • 20% Applies creative expertise within established brand and style guidelines
  • 15% Works collaboratively with other creative professionals, engages in and responds to creative feedback, manages project workflow and timing, maintains files, and follows established work unit processes
  • 10% Creates, designs, and produces specific signage and publications for the libraries, including the Libraries? biannual magazine, fundraising materials, building and other marketing signage, graphics for digital mediums, social media, and videos
  • 10% Develops marketing and branding style guides/toolkits with the marketing team and campus partners in University Marketing to ensure the Libraries staff have access to the most up-to-date and accurate materials to properly reflect the university.

Qualifications


Required:
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience engaging graphics and templates for digital, electronic, print, and social media communications
  • Exhibit a high level of creativity and attention to detail

As part of your application, please submit up to four samples demonstrating a range of skill containing pieces such as magazines, posters, other publications or documents (brochures, web-components, links to videos, photos created, etc.). Include these in your application materials.

Preferred:
  • An Associate's Degree or a minimum of two years professional experience in a multi-project, digital and graphic design environment is preferred. Recent graduates with relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience in digital photography and video production skills
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, handle multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines
  • Employ strategic thinking to develop concepts and present original ideas through graphic solutions
  • Demonstrate ability to create accessibility compliant graphics that adhere to material design principles
  • Ability to communicate design concepts to others who do not have formal design training
