General Position Description:
The South Central Library System (SCLS) seeks a Cataloging Assistant to assist with bibliographic records cleanup, copy cataloging, and authority control. The South Central Library System is a friendly work environment!
Schedule
This is a limited term (1 year), part-time position of 20 hours per week. Regular work hours flexible within 7:00 am (CT) and 6:00 pm (CT) M-F. This is a 100% remote position.
Performance Expectations
We are looking for someone who likes to work on data cleanup projects. Attention to detail is a must! Current library and information studies students and recent grads are encouraged to apply.
Essential Functions
The Cataloging Assistant will:
Perform ongoing authority control cleanup
Perform MARC and OCLC cataloging according to local standards
Assist with cleanup of duplicate bibliographic record cleanup, as well as other database cleanup tasks as needed
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree supplemented by training or experience in library technical services. Training or experience in three or more of the following: MARC copy cataloging, OCLC searching and editing, MarcEdit, database cleanup, library authority control, database entry.
Preferred Qualifications: Coursework toward, or Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school preferred.
Other Requirements: Ability to perform tasks accurately with minimum supervision. Must be self-motivated. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Reliability, ability to reason and think logically, and attention to detail are essential to this position. Work for this position will be conducted 100% remotely with a requirement that the employee is expected to have access to secure high speed internet. SCLS will provide a laptop.
Starting Salary: $22 per hour
